My lessons always start with diagnosis rather than delivery. Before I explain anything, I want to understand exactly where you're actually stuck: whether it's the underlying concept, the notation, how the question is phrased, or confidence under pressure. Those are different problems and they need different fixes, so jumping straight into an explanation without figuring out which one we're dealing with wastes both our time.
Once I know where the gap is, I build the lesson around you specifically rather than working through a fixed script. If you find certain topics get you fatigued or you find heavy writing demanding, I pace things carefully, keep written work to what's genuinely necessary, and flag stretch questions clearly so you always know what's core and what's a bonus. If you need more repetition to build real confidence in a topic, I build that in deliberately rather than rushing ahead to keep pace with a syllabus. I've taught students with dyslexia, ADHD, and autism, and adapting to how you actually learn, rather than how a generic lesson plan assumes you learn, is central to how I teach.
I'm also honest with you about where you actually stand. I won't sugarcoat a weak grasp of a topic, but I also won't let you leave a session feeling worse than when you arrived. Every lesson, the goal is that you understand something by the end that you didn't understand at the start, and that you know clearly what to focus on next.
Because I work as a software engineer day to day, I bring real examples of where the maths and physics I'm teaching actually shows up in practice, not textbook abstractions. That tends to make the subject feel like something worth understanding properly, not just something to survive. I hold an MEng in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the University of Bristol, with First-Class marks in my final year, and I was previously named Physicist of the Year by Imperial College London. I've been tutoring A-Level Maths and Physics one-to-one for five years, with a consistent track record of taking students from struggling with a subject to achieving A and A* grades.
