About Me

Hi, I'm Ben! I am a BEng Mechanical Engineer and a trained Secondary Physics Teacher based in Leeds.

Whether you are aiming for top grades in A-Level Physics, struggling to get to grips with GCSE Maths, or looking for practical engineering guidance, I am here to help. I believe that STEM subjects shouldn't be about memorizing textbook formulas; they are about understanding how the world around us actually works. As an engineer who uses these concepts daily to design wind turbines and write machine learning algorithms, I bring maths and physics to life with real-world, practical examples.

My Background & Experience

I have a unique blend of high-level academic training and hands-on teaching experience:

Trainee Teacher (Secondary Physics): I have formal experience teaching the national curriculum in a classroom setting. Feedback from my placements frequently highlighted my deep subject knowledge ("You CLEARLY know your stuff") and my strong, confident presence when commanding a room. I know exactly how to pitch complex topics to the right level for any student.

Mechanical Engineer (BEng): I have a 1st-hand understanding of advanced Mathematics and Physics, applying them professionally in CAD design, fluid dynamics, and data science.

Outdoor Activity Instructor (PGL): I once received the feedback, "I've never heard anybody so enthusiastic!" while teaching axe throwing. I bring that exact same high-energy, patient, and adaptable approach to tutoring. I know how to build confidence in young people and keep them highly engaged.

Subjects Offered

A-Level: Physics, Mathematics, Engineering Principles

GCSE: Maths (Higher & Foundation), Physics, Combined/Triple Sciences

University/Adult: Intro to CAD (FreeCAD/SOLIDWORKS), basic Python programming.

My Teaching Approach

My core teaching philosophy is simple: "If you don't understand a concept, that's not your fault, that's on me. I will just keep trying different methods until I find the exact right way to teach you."

No two students learn exactly the same way. In our first session, we will identify your specific goals. My sessions are highly interactive; I don't just lecture. We will work through problems together, build your confidence to tackle the hardest questions independently, and relate abstract concepts to real-world engineering so they actually stick.

Rates, Locations & Getting Started

I am available for tutoring online via webcam, or in-person. For in-person sessions, I am happy to travel to your home in the Leeds area, or meet at a neutral, quiet location like a local cafe or library (please note: I do not host sessions at my own home).

Rates:

GCSE Level: £20 - £25 / hour
A-Level / Adult CAD & Programming: £25 - £30 / hour
