Having studied Spanish and French at iGCSE, A Level, and up to university level, I am very keen to pass on what I learned to aspiring linguists. I am an enthusiastic, passionate, and engaging teacher, and I know from personal experience that languages open up the world to people and can connect you to cultures far from your own. I use a wealth of resources from my previous high school (North London Collegiate School) as well as from my time at Oxford, and I have taught children ranging from age 5-18 from learning languages for the first time, up to their A Levels. Being able to adapt lessons to individual students and their learning methods ensures them to be able to learn in a more dynamic, fast way, which is something that's not always possible in a classroom full of students. I believe a level of structure and challenge is important to see and monitor progress, and I always keep parents/guardians updated on this. I also make sure to keep myself updated on new teaching methods and trends, as I know things have also changed tremendously with the introduction of learning on social media. For example, we can hone in on individual interests while connecting them to current affairs (art, politics, history, culture), and while doing so focus on learning new vocabulary and grammar points through frequent quizzes. I believe that a genuine love for culture is of utmost importance when studying languages, especially to gain an understanding of linguistic context, this takes language learning to the next level.
