Anokhi Amaradasa

I am a Year 4 medical student at the University of Edinburgh, currently undertaking clinical placements, having previously completed a BSc (Hons) in Medicine at the University of St Andrews. Science, and biology in particular, has been the foundation of my own academic path, which is part of why I find tutoring it so rewarding.

I have over five years of tutoring experience. I began as a peer tutor throughout secondary school, supporting classmates in science subjects, before spending several years as a Kumon tutor, where I worked one-on-one with students across a wide range of ages and abilities on structured, curriculum-based learning. That experience taught me how to adjust my teaching to the individual in front of me rather than relying on a single fixed method.

My approach to tutoring is built around adaptability. I present concepts through multiple methods until they land with the student, and I pay close attention to the distinction between a student who simply needs more practice and one who needs the underlying concept explained in a different way. These are not the same problem, and treating them the same rarely helps.

Because of my medical training, I am able to teach biology and physiology to a level of depth beyond what a general tutor could typically offer, whether that means covering the standard curriculum thoroughly or going further into a topic for a student who wants a genuinely deeper understanding of how the human body works.
