I have been an English Literature and Language tutor since 2022 while studying at university. I have had successes with students coming to me on a grade 5/6 and achieving a 7/8 in their finals. I achieved a 9 in both my English Literature and Language GCSEs and an A in my English Literature and Language A-Level. I graduated from Newcastle University with a First Class Honours in English Literature.

If the student would like English Literature lessons, we would focus each lesson on one of the texts being studied. We would create character profiles with quotes and chapter plot summaries to help the student with the context side of exam questions. We would go through exam past papers and questions, training the student on how to structure essay-style questions. We would examine each question on the exam paper and how to structure answers for them.

If the student would like English Language lessons, we would go through the exam paper and how to plan responses to each question. We would analyse non-fiction texts and how to identify quotes and phrases independently. For the creative writing question, we would plan plot, characters, and structure that the student could use for any creative writing question given in the exam to relieve them of the stress of coming up with a story entirely on their own in the exam. I use the same approach with the arguing your viewpoint questions.

I pride myself on having a genuine passion for English as a subject and wanting to help students understand the potential within themselves to develop a passion for the subject and achieve highly. I have always provided my students with an environment where they don’t feel under pressure to be correct but feel confident to express their worries with me so I can help them as best as possible. I believe in shaping my lessons on a student-by-student basis depending on their strengths and what they need.
