Post A-level, I have been a private tutor for students in my local area for just over a year. Now, as a second year full time student at Imperial College London studying a MSci in chemistry, I now want to expand my tutoring experience to continue making a difference to my students confidence, grades and enjoyment in science.
From experience, I have found that each student requires a slightly different approach to learning. However, a fundamental aspect of learning I follow is to focus on mistakes as soon as they are made through past papers, homework and analysing completed in class and at home tasks. As a chemistry student myself, I understand the importance of active recall and the memory curve in understanding science, so I implement these throughout questioning across multiple lessons.
With previous students, I have taken on the role of tutor as a peer learner or older sibling rather than a teacher, to help them gain confidence to speak to me and ask me questions. In turn, this allowed me to visualise misunderstandings and target them, and also develop a bigger understanding of them as a learner. I have found this vital in their improved understanding and grades.
Of course, if you are looking for a tutor in the hope of helping focus or motivation, I am happy to be that weekly or biweekly focused session to aid continuous revision and will change my approach to learning adequately.
Please feel free to reach out to discuss anything with me. I am also happy to contact you via email or WhatsApp, so just let me know!
