My lessons are fully tailored to the needs, abilities and goals of each student. Whether you are preparing for GCSEs, A Levels, university entrance examinations or simply looking to improve your historical knowledge and essay-writing skills, I will design a programme that suits you.
A typical one-hour lesson follows a clear structure:
1. Retrieval Practice (5–10 minutes)
We begin by reviewing previous learning through quick questions, quizzes or discussion to strengthen long-term memory and identify any gaps in understanding.
2. Knowledge Development (15–20 minutes)
New content is introduced through explanations, visual materials, historical sources and guided discussion. Students are encouraged to ask questions and actively engage with the topic.
3. Skills Practice (15–20 minutes)
Students apply their knowledge through source analysis, interpretation exercises, essay planning, exam questions or case studies, depending on their course and objectives.
4. Feedback and Improvement (10 minutes)
We review answers together, identify strengths and areas for development, and focus on the specific techniques needed to achieve higher grades.
5. Consolidation and Next Steps (5 minutes)
The lesson concludes with a summary of key learning points, revision strategies and, where appropriate, independent tasks to prepare for the next session.
As a qualified teacher with over ten years of experience, I have taught in a range of schools including Ilkley Grammar School, Ermysted’s Grammar School, Prince Henry’s Grammar School, Rossett School and Outwood Academy. I have prepared students for AQA, Edexcel and OCR examinations and have extensive experience supporting both high-achieving students aiming for A/A* grades and students who need additional support to build confidence and make rapid progress.
Lessons are delivered online using video conferencing, shared documents and interactive resources. Students receive structured notes, model answers, revision materials and personalised feedback after each lesson. My teaching combines strong subject knowledge, proven classroom experience and a supportive approach that helps students become more confident, independent learners.
My objective is not only to help students achieve excellent examination results but also to develop a genuine understanding and appreciation of History.
