Many bright, capable students underperform during GCSE exams because they haven't revised in an "examiner friendly" way. Markschemes are frustratingly specific- and pose questions a far cry from the ones asked demanded in the traditional classroom.
Exam boards have increasingly structured their papers to differentiate candidates with a sound ability to recall content to candidates who can APPLY it in novel contexts- thus, my lessons will not only cover fundamental concepts vital to gaining an understanding of the subject, but also focus on exam technique and being able to reason under pressure.
Furthermore, I also focus on pre-exam preperation techniques (not strictly revision based, but also focusing on nutrition, sleep, and mental health) which I believe have a huge impact on exam day as well. Ultimately, a strong student must tolerate huge amounts of pressure from peers and at home to succeed and unfortunately many crack under stress and end up robbed of their deserved grades.
I hope to instill a strong work ethic and drive in my tutees whilst also assisting them with content so that eventually, they will be able to hold their own in the exam hall and beyond.
Please also note that I am currently in a full boarding Sixth Form so in-person sessions will be tricky, as will availability on weekdays!
Some more about myself:
I recently moved to the UK for Sixth Form following stints at several schools across the world, completing my GCSEs in Singapore with predicted full 9s for every subject. Most of my tutoring experience comes from mentoring students in my year and below regarding GCSE Sciences and Maths, with a main focus on Chemistry and Biology.
