A guide to finding law tutors and private lessons

What should I expect from a private law lesson?

Private law lessons are perfect for law students. A private law tutor can help students to organise themselves, understand difficult concepts and provide motivation. However, law tutors are not restricted to those who are studying a degree. Anyone who is interested in law can hire a law tutor. It is a great way to broaden your knowledge on the subject and acquire a foundation for future studies.

What law degrees can you study at university?

There are many different branches of law that students can choose to study. Although it will vary depending on the university, here are some of the different degrees that you can find:

  • Law: Most universities offer an undergraduate degree in Law, these degrees are usually a great introduction to Law and allow students to choose from a wide range of modules before specialising in their preferred area.
  • International Law: International Law degrees give students the opportunity to study law within the context of an increasingly globalised world. This is particularly beneficial for those who wish to work in multinational companies after graduation.
  • Law with criminology: The study of crime and criminals can be extremely beneficial for law students as it helps put law into context. This degree is favoured by those who wish to pursue a career in criminal justice.
  • Energy and Environmental Law: This degree provides eco-conscious students with a deeper understanding of energy issues, climate change and the laws governing these two areas.

Where can I find private law tutors?

Law tutors teach classes either online, in person or in law tuition centres. Before you start finding tutors, it’s best to have an idea of what you are looking for so that you can narrow down your search quickly and easily.

Here are some recommendations for finding tutors:

  •  In-person tutors: If you are more comfortable learning in a face-to-face environment, hiring a law tutor that lives in your area is the best option. You can either have the tutor come to your house, go to the tutor’s house or meet in a neutral location. To find a law tutor near you, simply select where you live using the filters on the left hand side of the page.
  • Online tutors: If you live in an area with low population it can be harder to find law tutors and your choices will be restricted. If this is true for you, or you simply do not have time to travel to or from classes, finding an online law tutor could be the best choice for you.
  • Law tuition centres: If you live in a city you may be able to find a number of law tuition centres that specialise in exam preparation and preparing students for a career in law.

What branches of law can you study in private lessons?

If you are interested in pursuing a specific branch of law, are struggling to pass a module at university, or are preparing to take an important law exam, finding a tutor to help you will be extremely beneficial. These are some of the most common branches of law:

  • Administrative Law: This refers to the rules that regulate the functioning of the government and its relationship with citizens.
  • Labour Law: This is the study of legislation that regulates the relationship between employers and workers.
  • Criminal Law: Criminal law is the study of laws that, when not complied with, are grounds for a sanction, fine or conviction as they are considered criminal acts.
  • Constitutional Law: Closely related to administrative law, constitutional law interprets and enforces the regulations set out in a country's constitution.
  • Procedural Law: This regulates the actions of the Courts of Justice and the professionals involved in legal proceedings.
  • Civil Law: Civil law is one of the disciplines of law with the most practical applications, as it studies the laws and regulations that govern relations between individuals, both at the level of individuals and legal entities.
  • Commercial Law: Another interesting discipline. Commercial law studies the legislation that affects companies and their activities. The digital era requires the adaptation of these regulations to the reality of the market, as well as covering the study of both local and international regulations within the framework of a globalised world.
