10 simple ways to write your personal statement
I remember penning down my personal statement when I was in my grad school. Google made it easy to copy and paste very creative statements. Honestly I found it was way easy to copy it down, but do not copy-paste, truthfully it doesnt work that way.
There is an dire need for you to convince your chosen university that you are their best choice out of thousands of high profile applications.
A simpe way, be truthful that's the only way to give your best chance, no one knows you better than yourself; imagine yourself in that position when you read it out. So lets begin.
1. Dont be lethargic. Make time. Dont rush and push. Make a draft.
2. As an international applicant, it was more difficult for me to write in English at first as it was not my native language, I could manage but still use of words and expressions can be still confusing. So use fine words not fancy ones. Be appropriate with the use of words.
3. Keep in mind to make it simple, relevant and factual. Start with enthusiasm in explaining what you what to achieve with this course and how you want to develop your skills and knowledge and in truly why you want this course.
4. Dont give any false data's or something that its not yours. It's okay to mention your career gap with real reasons. Be honest.
5. Proof read your statements each time, ask your family and friends, teachers. It always good to have feedback whether good or bad, its how we learn from our mistakes. Read it out loud many times.
6. Include positions or responsibilities you have held. Include your skills you have gained. Concentrate on your strengths, line up what you achieved during your course works.
7. Write about few things that makes you interesting, unique or special; your qualities, talents and personality.
8. Dont forget to share your details of placements, voluntary works, presentations, seminars that is relevant to your course.
9. Its okay to use word counter, but dont be intimidated by it. Keep it as simple and short, if there is note of any fonts, sizes, pages, formats needed by the University, please make sure to follow it.
10. Conclude with a lasting impressions, extend your professional goals, let your words persuade the reader to take actions, link it back with your introduction in how you take this candiature seriously.
But do not beg for the position, you are worth more than it. You are not looking for favor, but you are offering to do a favor by doing good to the society by your education.
Its okay to be rejected but do not quit.
