PhD Student, offering lessons to secondary-school and university students

Note: I can only do online lectures as I am currently based outside the UK.

I specialise in the Intellectual History of Eastern Europe in the 20th century, but I can help with any topic in History or Political Theory, as this is the area in which I received all my education.

I am somewhat unorthodox: I do not believe that it is necessary (nor possible) to learn by heart all of the historical dates, names etc - they are all available and easily accessible online anyway. The key is to learn how to find those facts, and then how to interpret them. A prerequisite for this step is naturally to find an interest in history. This is what I focus on in my lectures.

I start by linking the topic with student's interest (football, fashion...). I try to contextualise their interest within this broader historical topic. Then I start my lecture with thought-provoking questions and finish by presenting conflicting interpretations of a certain event or source, inviting students to reflect on and contrast different arguments. Students prepare for the next lecture with a curated curriculum that includes sources from popular culture, such as films and TV shows, depending on their age.

I do not have formal experience as a teacher or educator. Instead, most of my teaching experience comes from curating and running free courses for activists and young students. My perhaps unorthodox methods have proven quite successful.
