I have extensive experience working with children and families, where I learned that building authentic rapport, active listening, and collaborative problem-solving are the foundations of effective support. My approach emphasizes empathy and reflective listening, using open-ended questions to help students articulate their goals, barriers, and interests, while validating their feelings and guiding them toward constructive action plans. I build positive relationships with diverse learners, adapting my communication to suit different ages, developmental stages, and cultural backgrounds, and I leverage a strengths-based perspective to help students recognize capabilities and set achievable steps. In goal setting and planning, I assist students in defining clear, measurable objectives across academic, social, and personal domains, co-create timelines and accountability checks, and monitor progress with regular feedback and adjustments. For behavioural and emotional support, I apply youth-friendly frameworks to help students manage stress, regulate emotions, and cope with setbacks, delivering practical tools like time management, study routines, and resilience exercises tailored to individual needs, while coordinating with teachers, counsellors, and families for a holistic approach.
I collaborate with schools and services to identify needs, coordinate interventions, and track outcomes, facilitate group sessions and peer-support activities, and advocate for students’ access to resources. My student-centered practice starts with the student’s voice, and I emphasize strengths-led strategies, structured flexibility, and ongoing reflection to build self-efficacy and independence. I bring a compassionate, solution-focused mindset, the ability to translate challenges into actionable steps, quick rapport-building and confidential, sensitive conversations, and a collaborative spirit to work with teachers, counsellors, and families to create a coherent support system.
