Advert description
I teach by first identifying exactly what a pupil understands and where their difficulties are, rather than simply following the same lesson for every child. In my 11+ tutoring, for example, I work through questions with pupils, identify gaps in areas such as Maths, comprehension or reasoning, and then break difficult concepts down into smaller steps before building them back up through targeted practice. From teaching full classes from Year 1 to Year 7, I have learnt how to explain the same idea in multiple ways and keep children engaged even when they find a topic difficult. I use questioning throughout lessons to check genuine understanding, worked examples to demonstrate new skills, guided practice before asking pupils to work independently, and regular feedback to show them exactly what they need to improve. I also place a strong emphasis on confidence: if a child gets something wrong, I help them understand why rather than simply giving them the answer. For 11+ pupils, I additionally focus on exam technique, accuracy, working under time pressure and approaching unfamiliar questions logically. My aim is for every pupil to finish a lesson with a clearer understanding of the topic, a specific area of progress and greater confidence in their own ability.
