Advert description
My name is Sophia, and I’m a fourth-year student at the University of Manchester. I have more than a year’s experience (over 100 lessons) with online tutoring for those aged 15-18, previously conducted via the MyTutor platform.
I find it to be most effective to plan and structure around each student’s individual needs and preferences - forming the content of the session exactly to how they feel they will benefit most. Opening the session with a low-level cognitive activity, which revisits previous knowledge, helps the student to warm up and engage with our time together - this is something I have found to be very successful in my time as a tutor. I like to include a range of activities and techniques to optimise each student's learning styles and abilities - I want this online learning space to reflect my collaborative, positive and productive mindset. Throughout sessions, I feel it is vital that students feel comfortable to stop and ask for clarity when needed, or express misunderstanding at any point, it is welcomed and important for progress! Measuring such progress is helpful for motivation and learning attitudes, so I like to include progress checking in a regular, low pressure and constructive way.
