Advert description
Hello All,
I am a 24 year-old graduate with a 2:1 in Philosophy and Spanish from the university of Bristol, currently studying an MA in Anthropology with Arabic at SOAS. I spent the last year living and studying in Barcelona at the Universitat de Barcelona, where I took a range of classes taught in both Spanish and Catalan. I have worked privately tutoring both Spanish and Philosophy for A level, Pre-U and GCSE/IGCSE students.
In terms of my academic Spanish CV at IGCSE I achieved an A* , with 100% in my speaking module and a D3 in Pre-U (the equivalent to a low A* or high A in A level). Overall I gained 8 As and A*s, 2 Bs at IGCSE, and D3 M1 M2 at Cambridge Pre-U. Whilst at university, I consistently performed between a 2:1 and a 1st. My academic interests in the Spanish world are varied, writing essays on a range of topics from the Spanish Gag Law to Catalonia's language policies.
In my classes I aim to bring out a passion for Spanish. We will draw on a wide range of topics, exercises and texts. We will aim to use course specific texts that follow the interests of the student. The time here is to fully allow us to engage in really improving every students Spanish language skills whilst allowing them to explore the Spanish speaking world in a fun and engaging manner.
The sessions shall aim to integrate the core elements of language learning - grammar. Nailing Spanish grammar is the difference between a high A and an A*.
Having kicked our brains into gear, we can start engaging the grammar we have learned! Here we will focus on practicing our reading, writing and speaking. The aim of learning your language is to be able to use it, to interact and to enjoy it. Having focussed on nailing the hard parts, we can then implement it reading about different interesting topics (relevant to your GCSE exam), writing about them and discussing them. Through doing this we will truly engage the grammar we have learnt, find out new terms, understand colloquialisms and really get to grips with Castilian.
All my sessions will loosely follow this structure:
60 minute sessions;
5 minutes introduction, outline and questions
15 minutes Grammar
10 minutes Reading (on a different topic each week)
15 minutes Writing (on the reading)
10 minutes Discussion
