Advert description
My name is Emma (she/her) and I'm a qualified UK teacher (Outstanding PGCE, First Class Honours BA) with experience teaching English as an Additional Language to children aged 7–13, both online and in person. I am a native English speaker.
I taught EAL online for several months with Cambly, working with young learners on building confidence, vocabulary and fluency in everyday spoken and written English. I have also volunteered as an English teacher in Indonesia for underprivileged students (ages 3–18) and as a reading mentor in UK primary and secondary schools, so I'm used to adapting my teaching to very different starting points and needs.
My lessons are warm, patient and full of encouragement — I want every student to feel confident enough to make mistakes and keep speaking, which is often the biggest barrier for young EAL learners. I can support:
- Spoken English confidence and everyday conversation
- Reading, writing, spelling and grammar
- Vocabulary building through topics a child actually enjoys
- School-ready English for children joining a UK or international curriculum
In our first lesson, I'll spend time getting to know your child's current level, confidence and interests, so I can find topics that make them want to talk. We'll try a short activity together so you get a real feel for how I teach, and I'll follow up with a clear idea of the areas we'll focus on going forward. New students: your first lesson is just £10 (usually £20 an hour).
I also have a background in secondary History teaching and hold an English Literature A-Level, so I'm comfortable helping older EAL students with essay writing and exam-style written work if needed.
I want all of my students to enjoy their lessons, regardless of ability or accessibility needs, and will adapt resources accordingly.
