I start by finding out where the student actually is, what they understand, where it stops making sense, and what they're aiming for, rather than assuming. From there I explain concepts in plain, intuitive terms before adding the technical detail, and I tie everything back to everyday life: why prices rise at the supermarket, how interest rates hit a family's budget, what's really happening when a government makes a policy choice. Economics stops feeling abstract once a student sees it running underneath their own daily life. I check understanding by asking them to explain it back in their own words, and if one route in isn't landing I try another. Above all I keep it patient and encouraging: confidence is half the battle in economics, and a student who isn't afraid of the subject learns far faster.
