Knowledgeable, approachable and professional tutor with a diverse range of subject experience

Advert description
I hold a postgraduate degree in Political Theory and International Relations from the University of St Andrews, alongside a joint bachelor’s degree in History and Philosophy from the University of Glasgow. I have extensive experience producing high-level academic work and have frequently achieved first class marks, particularly for essays requiring strong argumentation and clarity of expression.
I specialise in helping students:

• Improve essay structure and planning
• Develop clear, persuasive arguments
• Understand and apply complex theories
• Prepare effectively for exams and assessments
While I am new to formal tutoring, I bring a rigorous academic background and a highly structured approach to learning. Through years of seminars and group based study, I have regularly supported peers in understanding difficult material, refining their writing, and gaining confidence in their ideas. I place strong emphasis on preparation, clarity, and careful explanation.

My teaching style reflects a belief in the value of interdisciplinary thinking. Drawing connections between history, philosophy, and politics often helps students grasp challenging concepts more deeply and produce more insightful written work.

I am particularly well placed to help with:

• Essay structure and argument development
• Source evaluation and critical reading
• Revision strategies
• Exam technique
• Critical thinking
• Clarification of complex topics

Lessons are student led and fully tailored to individual goals. Whether you are preparing for exams, working on coursework, or seeking deeper understanding, sessions are focused, supportive, and designed to provide clear next steps for improvement.

I have been taught by Robert during my undergraduate and postgraduate degree in history, politics and philosophy. He helped me understand and memorise course material, as well as supervised my academic work. As a tutor, I found him to be very patient, well spoken and positive -- exactly what I needed to complete my degree. During my postgraduate studies, it came in handy that he's got a background in research since he could help me find innovative ways of accessing data, sources and archives. I don't think I'd have graduated without him! I recommend him as a tutor for both younger and older students. They'd be lucky to learn from somebody this knowledgable in all areas -- his curiosity and well rounded, holistic approach never seized to amaze me!
