History and English Literature A-Level Tutor

Advert description
A penultimate year History BA undergraduate at Durham University. I offer to tutor pupils in English Literature and/or History for A-Level in accordance with the OCR exam board. I focus upon specific topics per subject. For History, I focus on the Early Modern Period; the Tudors, the Reformation (both domestically and across Europe), the monarchical crisis of Mary I and Edward VI, the reign of Charles V, his relationship with external foreign powers e.g. Luther and the Ottomans, and the Renaissance. For English Literature, I concentrate primarily upon Shakespeare’s Hamlet, John Webster’s The Duchess of Malfi, John Milton’s Paradise Lost, George Orwell’s 1984, Margaret Atwood’s The Handmaid’s Tale, Ian McEwan’s Atonement, and Tom Stoppard’s Arcadia.
My grades are a mere reflection of my ability and dedication to both English Literature and History. For GCSEs, I achieved a 9 in both subjects, and continued this calibre of achievement in my A Levels, achieving an A* and A respectively. For English Literature, I dropped only 4 marks across the entirety of exams and coursework, allowing me to succeed as one of the most successful pupils in my year group. In my first exam, which analysed Hamlet across two sections for 30 marks, and compared the Duchess of Malfi to Paradise Lost for another 30 marks, I achieved full marks. Similarly, in History, across my three exams I achieved an A* in two, and an A in the third. My Tudors paper, which involved analysing the reigns of either Henry VII or Henry VIII for 20 marks, and analysing sources concerning the “Mid-Tudor Crisis” for 30 marks, I dropped a mere 4 marks. My exam papers have been used as prime examples for lower year groups, who both anticipate and are currently undergoing the A-Level period.
I have previously engaged in position as ‘tutor’, throughout my time at secondary school. From Year 9 onwards, I supported the mathematics department in setting up an academic buddy scheme, where pupils would mentor younger pupils from a year or two below. This would aid pupils in preparation for their end of year exams, termly assessments, and GCSEs. Every week we would focus on a different topic, explore exam-style questions, and break down the required methodology to achieve full marks.
