GCSE English Language & Literature Tuition — taught by a qualified teacher and Get Further Tutor of the Year 2025

Advert description
If your child is working hard but English still isn’t translating into the grades they need, I can help.

I’m a qualified teacher, Teach First graduate and PhD student at King’s College London. In 2025, the national tuition charity Get Further named me Tutor of the Year for my work with GCSE English Language students — many of whom were resitting their exams or had lost confidence in their ability.

The part of tutoring I care about most is helping students realise that they can do English, and giving them the confidence and tools to prove it in their exams.

I start by finding out what is actually holding your child back. Often, it isn’t a lack of knowledge. They may know the text, understand the poem and have good ideas, but struggle to turn those ideas into a clear, analytical answer.

I focus on the skills that make the difference: understanding exam questions, selecting evidence, analysing language rather than describing it, building clear arguments, and writing effective paragraphs and essays.

I keep lessons active. Your child will be writing, redrafting, discussing ideas and responding to feedback, rather than simply listening to me. I set focused work between lessons and mark it carefully, with feedback that gives them a clear next step.

I can cover the full GCSE English Language and Literature specification: Language Papers 1 and 2, reading and comparison, creative and persuasive writing, Shakespeare, the nineteenth-century novel, modern texts, poetry and unseen poetry. I also work on essay structure, quotation use, analytical vocabulary, exam technique, timing and revision planning, plus spelling, punctuation and grammar where these are costing marks.

I teach AQA, Edexcel, OCR and Eduqas and have extensive experience of adaptive teaching and supporting learners with SEND.

Whether your child is working towards a grade 4, aiming for a 6 or 7, or pushing for a 9, I adapt lessons to their starting point and goals.

Alongside my classroom experience in London schools, I’m a PhD student at King’s College London with articles published in peer-reviewed academic journals. I bring that combination of teaching expertise and close attention to texts, evidence and precise writing to every lesson.

Most importantly, I know GCSE English can be a confidence issue as much as an academic one. I want my students not only to improve their grades, but to become mo
