Advert description
Hello! My name is Irie, and I recently graduated from Goldsmiths, University of London with a First Class BA (Hons) in Politics. I'm of Zimbabwean and Italian heritage and grew up across the Global South, living in Senegal, Uganda, Ethiopia, South Africa and Kenya. Those experiences shaped the way I see education, teaching me that there is no single way to learn and that every student deserves an approach tailored to them.
Curiosity has always shaped the way I approach both learning and teaching. Over the years, I have found that the clearest measure of understanding is the ability to explain an idea to someone else. That belief naturally drew me towards tutoring. I enjoy breaking down complex concepts, encouraging critical thinking and helping students build confidence as independent learners.
For me, tutoring extends beyond improving grades. My goal is to create an environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, challenging ideas and developing a genuine enjoyment of learning. Every lesson is adapted to the individual, recognising that every student has different strengths, interests and ways of learning.
Alongside my academic background, I have several years of experience working with young people. I volunteered as a football coach for girls aged 6–12 in Nairobi, planning weekly sessions that encouraged confidence, teamwork and resilience. I also volunteered at La Pouponnière children's home in Dakar, supporting early childhood learning through play and one-to-one interaction. In addition, I have extensive childcare experience, helping children with homework, reading and building positive learning routines. These experiences strengthened my patience, adaptability and communication skills.
I offer tuition in English, History, Politics and Drama, alongside; essay writing, study skills, exam preparation, International Baccalaureate (IB) support, and undergraduate academic support, including research, academic writing and dissertation guidance. I am also fluent in English, Italian and French, and am happy to provide language tuition and conversation practice. Whether you're looking for long-term academic support, exam preparation or help building confidence in a subject, my aim is to create lessons that are engaging, supportive and tailored to every student's goals. I look forward to helping you achieve yours.
