Advert description
Hello! I'm a third year Music Student at Merton College, Oxford. I have tutored musicology, theory, counterpoint, and have successfully assisted students with admissions. Tutoring is always about the tutee, and so we will discuss your interests and what you want to get out of our sessions, which will be run in a style akin to the Oxbridge tutorial system.
My experience as a pianist and an orchestral trumpet player has allowed me to build substantial knowledge of core repertoire and has fed my love for the art. As a tutor, I not only want to share this passion but, as we are all students, I want to explore and build on your existing interests, whereby our sessions are opportunities for discussion and for both parties to learn.
These sessions will be relaxed and tailored to your goals, whether that is personal edification, academic assessment, or otherwise. I have tutored students of all calibres, and am equipped to provide sessions in the following areas:
COUNTERPOINT
- Chorale harmonisation
- 18th/19th century stylistic composition (sonata, song accompaniment, String quartets)
- Renaissance polyphony
- Fugue
ANALYSIS
- Sonata Theory (Hepakoski and Darcey)
- Topic Theory / Hermeneutics
- Hypermetric Analysis
- Scale Theory
- Neo-Riemannian Theory
MUSICOLOGY
- Music Scholarship
- Philosophy of Music
- Sociology of Music
I will set homework for each of our sessions which we will discuss and work through in depth together. I will provide help-sheets and resources on request, and am always available via email should you have any inquiries. I look forward to working with you
