5+ Years Tutoring Experience | First Class BA/Distinction MA | IB HL English Lit 7

Advert description
My lessons are designed to develop strong, independent thinkers and confident writers. Whether I’m working with GCSE and A-Level students, IB candidates, or undergraduates on essays and dissertations, the focus is the same: clear thinking, persuasive argumentation, and precise expression.

I don’t treat literature as something to memorise or decode for “the right answer.” Instead, I approach it as a training ground for critical thought. Through close reading and structured writing, students learn how to articulate ideas with confidence, build and defend arguments without relying on assertion, disagree thoughtfully, and identify bias, assumptions, and rhetoric in language — skills that transfer across academic work, media literacy, and creative practice. These capacities are essential not only for strong grades, but for long-term intellectual confidence and academic maturity.

I’m an English tutor with a particular interest in helping students engage critically in both reading and writing. I hold a BA in History and Philosophy and a Master’s degree in the humanities from a University of London institution, graduating with First-Class and Distinction results. This academic training, alongside more than five years of tutoring experience, has given me a strong grasp of the argumentative essay and, just as importantly, how to teach students to think in arguments, not just reproduce them.

Lessons are always tailored to the student’s level, interests, and goals, and may focus on:

Essay & Dissertation Coaching: from refining questions/arguments to submission.

Research & Planning: structuring essays, building arguments, finding sources.

Literature Review & Critical Analysis: engaging with texts/viewpoints, and integrating sources effectively.

Writing & Editing: Improving clarity, structure, academic tone, and argumentative flow.

Proofreading & Academic English: Precision, coherence, grammar, and professional presentation for both native and non-native speakers.

UCAS & Postgraduate Applications: Personal statements, research proposals, and interview preparation.

As someone with ADHD, I’m particularly attentive to the needs of neurodivergent students. I bring practical tools and strategies to help with organisation, planning, motivation, and working under pressure — without lowering academic expectations or oversimplifying material.
