LESSON FOCUS:

My lessons are designed to build strong, independent thinkers and confident writers. Whether supporting GCSE and IB/A-Level students or undergraduates working on essays and dissertations, the focus is the same: clear thinking, persuasive argumentation, and precise expression.

Literature is not treated as something to memorise, but as a training ground for skills that extend well beyond the classroom. Through close reading and structured writing, students learn how to:

- Express ideas clearly and with confidence
- Develop and defend an argument without relying on assertion
- Disagree thoughtfully and diplomatically
- Identify bias, assumptions, and rhetoric in language
- Read critically across academic and media texts

These skills are essential not only for strong grades, but for academic maturity and long-term intellectual confidence.

LESSON STRUCTURE:

Lessons are delivered remotely and typically follow this structure:

1. Check-in & Focus Setting
Clarifying goals for the session (e.g. argument clarity, structure, close reading).

2. Targeted Teaching
Close analysis of a text, paragraph, or essay section, with attention to argument, language, and evidence.

3. Applied Practice
Working through examples together — planning, rewriting, or refining sections in real time.

4. Feedback & Strategy
Clear, actionable feedback and guidance on how to improve independently.

5. Next Steps
Homework or follow-up tasks set to support progress between sessions.
