Advert description
When I started teaching chemistry, I realized most students don't fail because they're not clever enough. They fail because chemistry feels disconnected random formulas to memorise, or concepts that seem logical until an exam question asks something slightly different. That's where I come in.
What I Actually Do
I start by finding out where you really are. Not where you think you should be I mean your actual gaps. Maybe you breezed through organic chemistry but get stuck on calculations. Maybe you "know" thermodynamics, but when I ask why energy spreads spontaneously, you freeze. I check this early, before wasting time on what you've already got. Every minute counts when revising.
Once I know what we're working with, I work backwards from past papers. Sounds boring, but exam boards don't ask randomly. They test the same concepts repeatedly just dressed differently. I show you a 2018 AQA question on entropy, then a 2021 one, then 2023. You'll see the pattern. When you spot a new question, you're not panicking; you're recognizing familiar territory with a new twist.
Where Misconceptions Live
Chemistry has universal traps. You probably think "exothermic means fast" it doesn't. Or "equilibrium shifts left when you add product" it shifts right. I catch these before they cost marks. When I explain something, I'm watching. If I see confusion, we stop. I don't move on until it's actually clicked, not just nodded at politely.
The Calculation Part
Chemistry calculations terrify people. But they're usually three steps: What am I finding? What's given? What formula connects them? I make you work through this routine, not to be demanding, but because after 20 times, the 21st time on an exam, your brain does it automatically. We'll practice countless calculations until you stop translating the method and start thinking it.
Why You'll Actually Improve
I've got an MSc in analytical chemistry and I'm a Royal Society Scholar for my teacher training. That's not CV padding. It means I know this subject deeply and I can explain why things work, not just that they work. When you understand the reasoning, chemistry stops being magic tricks and becomes logical.
During revision, I'm your guide. We build a realistic timetable around your other subjects. We identify exactly which topics need most time. We practice past papers under timed conditions .
