Advert description
I have taught EFL for 30 years, (yet remain very young at heart!) including in the Czech Republic and Spain. I am a flexible, creative and experienced teacher of English to foreign learners from beginner to upper-intermediate, with twenty two years experience teaching IELTS. I can support students taking the Scottish English Examination at National 5 and Higher. I can help you with English literature or Language for GCSE especially in understanding that difficult poem or play. I am interested in pupil needs on an academic and personal level and I have taught several SEN students. I am also good at drawing out quieter students. I can act as a trouble-shooter to help you craft an essay or understand a text in more depth. I often use strategic questions to help you dig deeper into a text. I try to use strategies that foster independendent thinking and help you discover how you think about a text rather than simply regurgitating what the examiners expect, although of course preparing you for the exams. I have many transferable skills, for example, in creative writing, so I can help you write a speech or write your own poetry or short story. I write poetry and short stories myself and have written two plays. I have a quirky sense of humour which I use to inspire and refresh my students and I am a kind and patient teacher. I am available to act as a support to your main teacher, or to develop your skills for an approaching exam. Even if you only want help with one aspect of your exam, I would be happy to help for a short period to get you over a difficult patch. Contact me and let's see how I can help you!
