I'm a linguistics graduate (MPhil, University of Cambridge, Distinction with a fascination with language and a desire to teach.

My background in linguistics gives me a strong technical understanding of English grammar, phonetics, and pronunciation. I've worked as a research assistant on a major sociolinguistics project (Generations of London English), carrying out detailed transcription and pronunciation/accent analysis using Praat software. I also have experience mentoring and supporting students one-to-one, including as a peer mentor, where I learned to listen carefully, adapt my approach to each individual, and communicate effectively. I will teach by first identifying each student's specific goals and gaps: whether that's exam technique, spoken fluency, or written accuracy and then build lessons around real, practical use of the language rather than rote drills. I will use a mix of structured grammar and vocabulary work, guided speaking practice, and exam-style tasks, as relevant, adjusting the pace and materials to each learner's level and confidence. I will check understanding regularly and give clear, constructive feedback so students can see their progress.
