Advert description
I’m a qualified Maths teacher with a PGCE in Secondary Mathematics, QTS and 12 years’ experience teaching GCSE and Functional Skills. I specialise in helping learners who may not have succeeded with maths first time around — from 16-year-olds resitting GCSE to adults returning to education after many years to complete Functional Skills for an apprenticeship or career progression.
My learners achieve pass rates above the national average for their particular cohorts. I believe that confidence comes from understanding maths, not simply memorising methods. I encourage learners to ask questions, explore different approaches and understand why a method works, while making sure they develop the exam skills needed to turn that understanding into marks.
My online lessons are interactive rather than simply talking through questions on a screen. I use a graphics tablet and online whiteboard so that I can model mathematical techniques and demonstrate clearly how answers should be set out. I also create my own teaching resources and mathematical videos, allowing lessons to be adapted to the needs of each individual learner.
I have extensive experience supporting learners who lack confidence or have previously struggled with maths, while also challenging more confident learners to develop deeper reasoning and problem-solving skills. Lessons are tailored around the individual: we can identify gaps in knowledge, work through difficult topics, practise exam questions or concentrate on the areas where you need the most support.
I am familiar with all the major Functional Skills Maths exam boards and have particular GCSE experience with OCR and Eduqas.
Whether you are preparing for a GCSE resit, working towards Functional Skills Maths or returning to maths as an adult after many years away, my aim is to help you understand the subject, build confidence and make genuine progress towards your qualification.
