Advert description
I am currently Head of Biology at a leading UK independent school and have previously held the same role at another top HMC school. I run a highly successful department with results consistently well above the national average, including around 90% of GCSE students achieving grades 9–7, and approximately one in five A-level students attaining an A* each year.
Alongside my school role, I have been tutoring for over 15 years with an excellent track record of student success. I hold two science degrees, Qualified Teacher Status, and have extensive professional experience beyond the classroom, allowing me to bring both academic depth and real-world perspective to my teaching. I also have access to a wide bank of extensive, tried-and-tested teaching resources, including exam-style questions, revision materials, and structured topic guides that have been refined over many years of classroom and tutoring experience.
I regularly attend exam board training led by chief examiners, giving me an up-to-date and detailed understanding of exactly what examiners are looking for. This insight enables me to prepare students not just in content knowledge, but in the precise terminology and exam technique that modern Biology assessments demand.
I tutor Biology at all levels and across all major exam boards.
Today’s A-level Biology examinations place far greater emphasis on interpretation, analysis, and evaluation than simple recall. In many papers, two-thirds of available marks come from higher-order questions, and even top-grade students may only need scores in the mid-60% range to achieve an A*. Understanding how to unlock those marks is crucial, and this is a central focus of my tuition.
Confidence is key. I work carefully to build each student’s self-belief alongside their subject knowledge, ensuring secure understanding before moving on to the most demanding exam questions. This structured approach allows students not only to improve grades, but to develop genuine independence and resilience in their learning.
In addition to subject tuition, I am often able to support families with wider academic guidance, including advice on exam scri pts, re-marks, resits, predicted grades, and university applications. I have significant experience in successfully challenging exam board marking decisions and have helped numerous students secure higher grades as a result. In one not
