Hello. I'm an experienced science teacher who has worked in education for 27 years. I teach chemistry, biology and science GCSEs, KS3, and ISEB CE, and I have the enviable reputation amongst students of being 'the nutty one'! I'm not really mad - I just enjoy making my lessons fun and creative - I use props such as ping pong balls and Barbie dolls - whatever it takes to make learning visual and enjoyable, whilst ensuring that learning happens. My notable reputation stems from my ability to assist and empower students with diverse learning needs. I'm particularly well known for working with students who need that little bit of extra support; I have a patient and empathetic approach - I understand that not everyone finds science easy. I use a lot of verbal repetition and call-and-response techniques, and I have an abundance of original scaffolded learning materials to foster confidence and understanding. That said, I have also taught top sets, inspiring high-achieving students to reach their fullest potential. I am passionate about nurturing their drive and providing the motivation they need to soar. With a specialism in SEN within mainstream education, particularly with ADHD but also ASD, and DCD, I have tutored one-to-one for many years as part of my teaching role. I work closely with students to ensure they remain productive and get the most out of their time with me. I teach Chemistry and Biology for the AQA, and Edexcel IGCSE exam boards. As an active teacher, I stay current with the syllabus and its requirements. Further, I am available during the day to accommodate international students in other time zones or those not currently attending school. I hold an up-to-date Enhanced DBS certificate, and additional certificates in Understanding Autism level 2 (2024), ADHD Awareness (2023), Equality and Diversity (2024), Social and Emotional Mental Health Needs (2024), Child Protection Safeguarding and Duty of Care (2023), SEND Code of Practice (11-18 years). Further, I have additional certification in GDPR, Online Safety, Risk Assessment and Fire Safety. I am also a qualified first aider.
