I have previously supported a younger student who spoke Cantonese and Mandarin before English, working with her through weekly reading sessions. Attending a highly diverse school and sixth form has also given me insight into the challenges learners face when English isn’t their first language. I’ve used simple effective strategies including gestures and visual cues, to help students communicate and feel comfortable.

As a Native English speaker with a GCSE in AQA Spanish, I understand slightly what it’s like to learn a new language, which helps me relate to my students more when they find certain areas difficult. With all that being said, let’s embark on this journey together!!
