I teach alongside the key-stage 3 specifications ensuring that all potential topics to come up in exams are covered. Primarily, I offer support for learning alongside what the student is learning in lessons. I always target areas of weakness first, especially topics which lay the foundations to further knowledge. I begin with explaining the simple concepts and will answer any questions the student has for me. I have a strong belief in practice over talking and listening though, as with practice techniques can be memorised and the student can gain their own original thought and understanding. I tend to use past exam question practice specific to the student’s exam board when I feel a student has a strong understanding of the topic. I then mark these myself while referring to the official mark schemes. I try my best to make sure students enjoy learning, as I’m aware it can be tedious tackling difficult topics. Therefore, I adjust my teaching to the student’s learning style when necessary to strengthen understanding. I try my best to also get to know students whilst maintaining professional boundaries so that they feel motivated to cooperate with learning.
