What are my lessons like?
My lessons are structured, interactive and tailored to each student's individual needs. I believe that the best way to learn Maths and Science is not simply just memorising formulas, but to understand the principles behind them and learn how to apply them confidently to unfamiliar problems.
1. Understanding the student’s needs
I begin by identifying the student's current level, strengths and areas for improvement. Whether they need help understanding difficult topics, consolidating what they have learnt in school, or preparing for upcoming examinations, I will adapt my lessons to suit their needs, ability and pace.
2. Clear explanations and interactive teaching
I use digital tools, including online whiteboards, to make lessons engaging and easy to follow. I can work through equations, annotate diagrams, explain scientific processes and demonstrate mathematical methods in real time. Students can follow each step as I explain it, ask questions whenever they need clarification, and actively participate in solving problems. This creates a more interactive learning experience than simply reading through notes or watching someone else work.
3. Guided practice and problem-solving
After explaining a concept, I guide students through relevant questions, gradually encouraging them to work more independently. I place particular emphasis on understanding why a method works, recognising which techniques to use, and avoiding common mistakes. For examination students, I also incorporate exam-style questions and past papers to develop problem-solving skills, familiarity with question formats and effective exam technique.
4. Reviewing progress and building confidence
Throughout each lesson, I check understanding and revisit concepts where necessary. I aim to create a supportive environment in which students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes, as both are important parts of learning. Where appropriate, I can suggest practice questions or revision tasks to reinforce what we have covered.
5. Experience and my approach
I have experience supporting GCSE students, as well as Key Stage 2 pupils preparing for SATs and school entrance examinations. As a Sergeant in the RAF Air Cadets, I have also delivered lessons to groups of over ten cadets, developing my communication, organisation and teaching skills.
With predicted A* grades in Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, I bring strong subject knowledge and enthusiasm for STEM. Ultimately, my goal is to help every student develop a deeper understanding of their subject, become a more independent learner and approach challenging questions with greater confidence.
