I work closely within the students abilities and interests, making strong use of custom tools/examples to practically demonstrate key topics. I like to stay away from book-work where possible.
During our first lesson I'll aim to assess your overall ability, having a look at everything you've covered so far during your course. Following lessons will be targeted at each module/section of your syllabus and where possible I am to leave you 5 steps ahead of your peers to ensure you secure those 8's/9's and A*'s.
Lessons will involve looking at practical examples, tools to demonstrate theories, or working in a "pair-programming" structure to support your understanding of practical coding, debugging and testing. I will very rarely provide PowerPoints, but I will always aim to provide lesson notes so that you can focus on truly understanding the content.
I understand exams can be very stressful, even for those who test well, so I offer guided exam paper walkthroughs at any time and especially in the lead up to mocks or final exams. It's critical to build confidence and familiarity with the structure of exams so that when the day comes, you're not bogged down by nerves and you can sit the paper with confidence and purpose.
While my tools and resources are not AI driven, I do support teaching with AI and emphasise the ethical use of large language models to support learning, as this is the way the industry is moving, it's important to understand how to leverage AI without using it as a crutch, having worked in regulated industries which completely ban and block AI tools for data security reasons, I've seen first hand how students who use AI as a crutch rather than a tool fail far too often.
