Dr. Peter Gilbert

My lessons are structured, supportive and adapted to each learner’s goals, confidence level and preferred way of learning. I begin by identifying what you already understand, what you find difficult, and what you want to achieve, whether that is improving grades, preparing for exams, completing coursework, developing coding confidence, or learning a new area of Computer Science.

I have extensive experience teaching Computer Science, ICT and Mathematics from Key Stage 3 through to GCSE, A Level, BTEC, T Levels, HND, university and postgraduate level. I have also worked as a Senior Computer Science Lecturer, Curriculum Leader, Curriculum Manager, examiner, private tutor and software engineer, so I bring both academic teaching experience and real-world industry knowledge into my lessons.

My teaching style is clear, patient and practical. Lessons usually include short explanations, worked examples, guided practice, independent problem-solving and constructive feedback. For programming lessons, I often use live coding, debugging tasks and small projects so that students can understand not only the theory, but also how to apply it. I can support Python, Java, C++, C#, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, SQL, cyber security, algorithms, data, software development, exam preparation and coursework skills.

I aim to build confidence as well as knowledge. I encourage questions, break complex topics into manageable steps, and help students develop the independence to solve problems for themselves. My goal is for every learner to leave each lesson with clearer understanding, improved skills and a positive attitude towards Computer Science. I also use real-world industry examples to make topics practical, relevant and engaging.
