With almost 20 years of experience as a further education lecturer, I have spent much of my career helping young people build their confidence, overcome barriers and remain engaged with their education.

Alongside teaching, I have group tutor responsibilities and provide ongoing pastoral support to students. This includes helping them manage challenges affecting their attendance, motivation and progress, identifying practical next steps and signposting them to additional support when needed. I understand that success is not simply about academic ability. Students often need someone who will listen, recognise what is getting in their way and help them create a realistic plan for moving forward.

I regularly support students with ADHD, autism, dyslexia, anxiety and other additional support needs. I take a patient, flexible and non-judgemental approach, adapting the support I provide to the individual rather than expecting every student to work or communicate in the same way. Building trust is particularly important to me, especially when working with students who may have had difficult experiences of education or have lost confidence in their own abilities.

My teaching experience has also helped me become organised, approachable and comfortable communicating with students, parents, colleagues and other professionals. I am able to balance encouragement with accountability, helping students break larger goals into manageable actions and recognise the progress they are making.
