I have been making videos on TikTok and Instagram for almost 2 years whilst working on my PhD. These videos are focussed on helping people understand the complex biology of dementia. During this time I have taught some GCSE biology, and supervised undergraduate and master's students. I've really developed a passion for communicating tricky subjects. I also realise that not everyone learns at the same speed, or in the same way so I am devoted to being as flexible with my teaching methods as possible.
Understanding science can be really tough. You can learn mark schemes quite easily but if there is a change in the wording of a question, it can be really tricky to give the correct answers. That is why I believe that deep understanding of topics is so important, it gives you more flexibility when it comes to difficult questions. I love to use analogies to explain complex topics, when you can explain it in your own words, or draw parallels to other topics then that is when you know you've understood!
In our first lesson, I want us to get to know each other - identify what areas you feel less confident in. After this, I'd like us to figure out, together, what methods work best for you to be able to learn. From then on, we will have a solid base to work from and we will go through topic by topic to solidify your understanding.
