I found Maths very difficult at school, and I didn't like revising at all! However, I had a fantastic teacher in year 13 who had a more empathetic approach to teaching and tried to make everything as simple and relatable as possible, and that is how I teach.
I prioritise building confidence and enjoyment in my lessons. For this reason I will use diagnostic questions to assess the level a pupil is at with a particular topic, then use a variety of resources to see what works well for each pupil. From my teaching experience I have seen that tailoring lessons and teaching style to the pupil is essential for successful learning to take place.
I use spaced learning to practice pupils' recall ability (which is what is needed in exams) and try to show how topics interlink to increase pupils' competency overall so that they are not relying on short term memory in an exam situation.
