Sumayya Bint Yasir

I am a Mathematics tutor with an Aerospace Engineering background and halfway through formal teacher training, combining strong subject knowledge with effective classroom practice. I graduated with a BEng in Aerospace Engineering (2:1), where I developed advanced mathematical understanding in areas such as algebra, calculus, mechanics, and problem-solving. I am currently completing my PGCE in Secondary Mathematics with QTS, gaining hands-on experience teaching KS3 and KS4 in UK secondary schools.

Alongside my training, I have over four years of tutoring experience, supporting students from primary level through to GCSE. This has given me a deep understanding of common misconceptions, exam technique, and how to adapt explanations to different learning styles and confidence levels.

My lessons are structured, calm, and purposeful. I begin by identifying gaps in understanding, then break concepts down into clear, manageable steps before gradually increasing challenge. I use worked examples, guided practice, and exam-style questions to build both accuracy and confidence. I prioritise strong foundations, because without secure basics, students struggle later on.

I set high expectations while creating a supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions. Whether the goal is improving grades, preparing for exams, or building long term confidence in mathematics, my focus is always on clarity, consistency, and measurable progress. Students comfort is my priority, as effective learning cannot take place without this. I offer free first online lessons (you can then switch to in-person after the first lesson if you wish)
