I have a PhD in Linguistics, an MA in teaching Spanish, a PCGE in teaching Spanish at secondary school level and an undergraduate degree in Spanish and Latin American studies. I have been teaching languages for over 10 years (Spanish and English) and I have experience in primary, secondary, Sixth Form and University. My most recent experience is EAL Coordinator at a secondary school where I mostly taught students who were new to English and prepared students for all levels of ESOL examinations. I also supported more advanced students who had English as a second language in preparation for their GCSEs. Prior to this I have taught English writing to Chinese undergraduate students and trained teachers who were studying to teach TEFL at the University of Essex.
My lessons are well structured and respond to what the learner needs. If the student has a specific goal, like learning to use a wider range of vocabulary, I will focus the lesson on this. If the learner has a set of goals then I will structure a long term plan to achieve these goals. The style of the lesson can vary, depending on the learner. If the learner likes to learn through creative arts such as music and poetry, I can find ways to ensure this features in the lessons. If the learner refers a more reading-centred approach I can adapt lessons to this. I have a vast array of resources to cater for all grammar points and can explain things (new and old) very clearly, using examples until the learner understands. I am happy to answer questions throughout lessons and work on any specific assessments that might be necessary.
