I am a trained biologist with a masters in biological research and enjoy sharing my love for science, particularly environmental and wildlife sciences. I have experience teaching students between 5 and 11 through experiential learning, designing activities to improve understanding of biological concepts. Science doesn’t come naturally to all, and I recognize not all students will go on to pursue biology like I do. My goal with my students is to foster engagement in their curriculum, improve understanding of tricky biological concepts, and connect lessons to real world examples.
As a tutor, I encourage my students to develop deeper understanding of key concepts, leading them through to their own conclusions rather than just telling them the answers. I have found through my own learning journey that I grasp concepts more fully when I can find a practical application, or connect lessons to my own life in some way. I find that by developing these connections between students and the curriculum, my students walk away with better understanding, memory retention, and genuine interest in lessons.
I also focus on experiential learning, providing students with activities or experiments they can conduct at home to allow them to get “stuck in” to the lesson. I find these exercises engage my students in learning and get them more excited about the subject.
I am happy to work with students of all types and backgrounds. Young, old, neurodivergent, or disabled, I feel every student has potential and can bring unique perspectives and challenges to learning.
