My working life has always been involved with language and I take any opportunity to share my skills with others. We all know the benefits of learning another language and many people are unsure how to go about finding the right approach to learn. Apps such as Duolingo are great to start off with but interacting in person really enables you to develop your skills. I find the most successful and engaging lessons are those where the learner interacts as much as possible. Alongside a contemporary course book I use authentic materials for speaking and listening and a variety of activities to embed grammar. I encourage learners to explore different ways to practise the language, recognising that fitting homework into a routine can be challenging at times. I also use Italian stories and music in lesson materials. All of these resources can also be used at home for extra practice. I lived in Italy for 20 years after graduating in Italian and German. I have also been a professional translator for many years. I continue to teach Italian simply because I love the language and would encourage all and everyone to have a go. I’m more than happy to tailor lessons to the needs of the learner, such as basic conversation skills for trips abroad, to more advanced levels or the curriculum for specific exams. I am happy to teach 1:1 and also small groups where this is an option. If you’re still unsure, try a lesson and then decide! Grazie mille!
