Most classes are conversation-based, because that is the skill which my students say they get the least opportunity to practise in their own countries. I have a thorough knowlege of grammar and structure and considerable experience preparing students for exams such as IELTS and TOEFL, but speaking is usually the main requirement. I follow no fixed format, but aim to keep lessons flexible and responsive to individual needs. I can help students at all levels, but my teaching style is of most benefit to students at an upper intermediate level or higher. This enables me to expand on the more interesting subtleties and sometimes bizarre nuances of the English language.
I can and do teach students of all ages, but again I would say that adult professionals will benefit particularly from my extensive experience of teaching in corporate and public sector environments. I have, for example, run courses in several countries aimed at developing communication and presentation skills for workers and managers in both the public and private sectors. I offer help with both the linguistic and physical aspects of public speaking.
Another key interest of mine is writing. I am a published author with long experience in journalism (as both an editor and writer) and creative writing.
