Hi! I am a rising sophomore in college studying mechanical engineering with a big interest in helping people succeed and fully understand what they are learning in their biology classes.
I like to start with presenting the students with the notes and necessary formulas needed to solve problems. I draw attention to the key points in the lesson that students often misunderstand or forget. I also like to give students handful mnemonic devices and memorization techniques that are essential in high level accuracy on examinations. I want to give students a broader understanding beyond the surface level combining a variety of different resources from videos, textbooks, diagrams and examples. I then like to run through practice questions targeted at specific learning objectives so I can get a sense of whether or not they have actually understood the necessary techniques. This usage of active recall is essential in laying the foundational groundwork for the subject in order to be able to add on more complex understanding. I use this to determine what else I need to review again and be able to connect with the students. I understand the importance of taking a step back and reviewing past rusty knowledge that can often be the background reason for issues in later learning.
I will also focus on test taking strategies helping to long response writing and multiple choice. It is really important to have good test preparation in order to do well on the exam.
