I have a first class BA honours in Philosophy from Cambridge University, and around a year and a half experience teaching in both a volunteer and professional capacity. Moreover I have classroom experience. For Philosophy I enjoy building off the dialectical nature of the subject, turning a lesson into a dialogue, where we go through some text or a problem together and flesh out our ideas by bouncing off one another. I find having to defend a particular position in philosophy works best for gaining a good understanding of what it is you believe, more than rote learning a set of bullet points.
However this is not to say that my lessons only have on format: I strongly believe that everyone learns differently. Part of what I enjoy about teaching is getting to know these different styles, and tailoring my lessons to them. So if you enjoy close reading material with someone else, want a set of handouts condensing complex topics into absorbable chunks, or help refining an essay or paper, I am more than happy to shift the lesson style to your particular needs.
Additionally I often like to have a trial lesson, where we discuss what you want to learn, how you enjoy learning and whether additional lessons would be helpful, before getting into the work. Again I think with Philosophy its important to understand the perspectives which either side are coming from.
For the lessons, I can use google meet or zoom if you would like online tutoring. If you would prefer face-to-face sessions, I can commute to you within London!
