My lessons are friendly, supportive and tailored to each student. I begin by getting to know the student and understanding their current strengths, weaknesses, learning style and areas where they would like extra support. This helps me identify which areas we should focus on first, rather than using the same approach for every student.
I usually begin by working on areas where the student feels less confident. I explain new concepts clearly using simple language and examples, and I ask questions throughout the lesson to make sure the student is following and actively thinking about what they are learning. If something is not understood the first time, I will explain it in a different way, use another example or break it down into smaller steps until it becomes clearer.
I believe students learn best when they are actively involved, so my lessons involve plenty of practice rather than simply listening. Depending on the topic, this can include questions, quizzes, short activities and worked examples based on what we have covered. I gradually encourage students to complete questions independently while being available to guide them when needed.
Throughout each lesson, I provide encouragement and constructive feedback so students can recognise their progress and build confidence. I also adapt the pace depending on how comfortable they are with the material.
My aim is for every student to leave a lesson feeling that they have learnt something new, understood it and feel more confident using their skills independently.
