For both AQA English Literature and English Language GCSE, each qualification can be split into sections, and worked on in portions before combining skills together to help students achieve. In order to see progress and enjoy writing, basic skills need to be cemented before beginning to work on performance as a whole.

For example, in the Shakespeare play, ensuring that students understand the characters and plot will help them understand why the author chose those characters and that structure. This will help them explain their essay points to examiners, and then be able to back it up with evidence and relevant context.
In Poetry, being able to understand the meaning of an extended metaphor will in turn help students make sustained links between texts, and demonstrate a deeper understanding to markers. Breaking down a student's comprehension of texts and writing techniques is essential to be able to make concrete progress in the long term.

Sessions can be focused on areas that students want particular help with, such as structuring essays, analysing quotes and writing practice. Personalising the learning experience to individual learners will help ensure that each student gains the most from each session.

We can use shared online whiteboards, my own resources, and retrieval practice to help make visible progress.
I have limited tutoring experience, but am eager to help students make the most of such a valuable subject, that will serve them as they progress through life. I would love to help you love English like I do.
