My passion for languages began when I moved from Bulgaria to England. At that time, my English was limited, but I was determined to learn. Immersing myself in the language every day, I improved quickly, and that experience showed me how powerful communication can be — it connects people, opens opportunities, and allows you to express who you are. Learning English sparked a curiosity in me, and I wanted to explore more languages.

I completed my high school education in Bulgaria, studying French as my first language and English as my second. In my final year, I realised how languages shape how we see the world, inspiring me to specialise in English and Spanish at university. Studying Spanish allowed me to explore grammar, linguistics, literature, and culture in depth, and using it regularly with my husband’s family has given me fluency and confidence while deepening my cultural understanding.

During university, I completed two teaching placements in Italy, teaching English to 17-year-old students at B2–C1 levels. I planned and delivered lessons on a variety of topics, encouraging students to communicate confidently and creatively. These experiences taught me adaptability, empathy, and classroom management, as I learned to respond to different learning styles, manage group dynamics, and create lessons that include everyone. Seeing students grow in confidence showed me how encouragement and positivity can transform learning.

I would describe myself as patient, enthusiastic, organised, and reflective. I enjoy planning creative lessons that balance grammar, vocabulary, and cultural insight with interactive, real-life communication. I prioritise building confidence, helping students feel comfortable experimenting with language, and inspiring curiosity about the world beyond the classroom.

I am particularly drawn to teaching at the secondary level because it is a formative time in a young person’s life. I want students to see languages not just as subjects, but as skills that open doors and connect them to other cultures. My background in Spanish, bilingual French-English ability, and experience teaching advanced learners have prepared me well for this next step. Most of all, I hope to pass on the same curiosity and passion for languages that I discovered when I first arrived in England.
