I tutor my fellow university students in German once a week, but I am also available throughout the week.
I am interested in things like German grammar, but I am also well-versed in German vocabulary, pronunciation (regionally, too), and spelling rules. In short, while my toolbox for German grammar is particularly well-equipped, I am well-rounded for all aspects of German.
As the absolute foundation, I am a firm believer in guiding students in good pronunciation. While I am not asking for perfection, I do believe that good pronunciation of German — combined with a good understanding of German's rather transparent spelling — is the key to remembering words.
Now, I also believe that a student should ask a question if it comes to mind, and that the instructor ought to be able to answer that question. In other words, I believe in providing a thorough yet concise answer to any question. In this way, I set myself a high standard.
I also am a believer in the idea that examples should always be given when teaching. In other words, new information only does when a teacher leaves it in a vacuum or a student does not produce with it. Thus, my method is to introduce new vocabulary, to explain how to use the word, and then encourage the student to create a sentence with said word.
Even with all of these views, I believe in catering my work to a given student's needs. A student who has found a particular method useful should feel completely free to suggest it to me. Nonetheless, I am also confident that my methods can work for anyone.
