I am primarily a visual and conceptual mathematics teacher. I naturally look for the structure connecting mathematical ideas and for representations that make that structure visible. My architectural approach to planning means that I think carefully about foundations, sequence, dependencies and how the parts of a lesson contribute to the whole.

I am an Early Career Teacher with PGCE and QTS in 11–19 Mathematics. I enter teaching after a long professional career in IT, data architecture, consultancy and adult training. This background gives me maturity, analytical thinking, and organisation skills.

Classes I taught on my PGCE year exceeded expectations. For example a Y8 Set 2 raised its average mark by 15% after I taught them with half the class doing better than the corresponding set 1, many of them moving up and only 2 in the class moving down.

This was indicative of my results and I enjoyed teaching support classes as well as high attaining children. Comfortable across all abilities-ages from Y7-Y13, including exam classes. One-to-one I can have an even greater effect on pupil’s mathematical progression and grades.

Teaching focus currently Y7-Y13, but happy to drop down to Primary.

My Post-Graduate Mathematical Maturity and Career Experience means I can help A-Level Students understand and explore mathematics - Guiding them deeper conceptually and where to self-help on YouTube, etc.

Can help resolve issues around understanding at A-Level if a student is motivated, and have recently taught A-Maths and Further Maths successfully in a school, to 20 and 10 pupils respectively.
